Manchester United Pursue Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite in Transfer Overhaul

Manchester United are reportedly interested in securing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in a cost-effective deal as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s initial signings. The 71-year-old is poised to revamp the United squad during the summer transfer window, with Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane already confirmed to depart and more likely to follow suit.

The potential exits will create room for new arrivals, and Branthwaite is on United’s radar ahead of the window’s opening on June 14. Ratcliffe, who acquired a 25% share in United earlier, aims to make a significant impact from the start of his tenure.

United’s priority this summer is to reinforce their defense, with Jonny Evans likely to leave upon contract expiry and interest in Harry Maguire from West Ham, while Lisandro Martinez is recovering from injury. Victor Lindelof also has just one year remaining on his contract.

Branthwaite has emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout young defenders, impressing with Everton, making 35 appearances and scoring three goals this season. Ratcliffe, yet to finalize Erik ten Hag’s appointment as manager, envisions Branthwaite as a player who can elevate United’s performance.

Everton’s financial struggles off the field have made them open to selling players, with Branthwaite potentially available for half of his £80m valuation. This scenario presents United with a favorable opportunity to strengthen their squad.
